My Grandmother’s Watch

My grandmother was a very strict person—towards herself and others. If you take a close look at the watch’s wristband you can see it: the wristband has been lashed very tightly for the decades that she wore it. Sometimes I think that the freedom of my generation has been built upon the deprivation and hard work of my grandmother and the women of her generation.
